Missed our stream on South Africa? Here are all the answers in one place: the market, offers, payouts, traffic, and rules.
Market
1. Why is South Africa a priority right now, and how is it different from the rest of Africa?
South Africa's alternative lending market reached $1.19B in 2025 (+14.2% YoY) and is forecast to hit $1.95B by 2029. Banks score applicants strictly and turn away a large share of the working population, and alternative lenders fill that gap. 35% of South Africans plan to apply with a non-bank provider in the next 12 months. South Africa is one of Leadgid's top 4 priority GEOs, alongside Mexico, Spain, and Asia.
2. Isn't this a bubble? Will the GEO fade in a year?
No. The demand is structural, not trend-driven. It's backed by 33% unemployment, strict bank scoring, and the need to bridge the gap until payday, none of which depends on hype or seasonality. The market has grown for nine years in a row and is forecast to grow 13.2% annually through 2029.
3. Could the regulator shut the vertical down, like in other countries?
Unlikely. Finance in South Africa is fully white-hat. Affiliates don't need a separate license. In betting it's different: every affiliate partnership with a bookmaker needs approval from a provincial regulator. Lending falls under the National Credit Act, but that applies to the lender, not the affiliate. The only requirement for affiliates is not to mislead users in creatives.
4. Do I need to know anything about local payment methods?
Not really. Loans are paid out to a bank card or account, and 81–85% of adults have a bank account. There's no barrier like OXXO in Mexico, so the funnel is simpler than in LATAM.
Offers & Product
5. What loan amounts are typical?
Small, short-term loans:
- Primeloans: 500–4,000 ZAR for 5–35 days
- Century: 500–8,000 ZAR for 5–180 days
These loans are for bridging the gap until payday, not for big purchases.
6. What are the interest rates? Is this legit?
For example, Primeloans charges 29.25%. The rate depends on the amount and term and is calculated at application. Century starts from 0.1%. We check every advertiser's licenses and compliance before they join the network.
7. Which offer should I start with if I don't know the market?
Start with Creditomax, Finpug or Dengoo.
8. Is there RevShare for South Africa?
Yes, Creditum ZA RS. It suits affiliates who are already confident in their traffic quality and ready to judge results over the long run, not in a week. Before launching, clarify three things: which revenue counts toward the calculation, how long the client stays attributed to you, and whether repeat loans are included.
9. Do you only have loan offers for South Africa?
Microloans are the core for now. Two other directions are growing across the market: credit cards and BNPL. Both have already taken off in Europe and the US, and South Africa is next. Those who enter early will take the biggest share.
10. Is there an API for my own showcase or comparison site?
Yes. LendPlus is available via API. It's built for affiliates with their own loan comparison platform or lead distribution infrastructure.
11. Can I get a custom rate as my volume grows?
Yes, but each advertiser negotiates it individually. There's no universal rule.
12. What are the caps? Can I send 500 leads a day?
Yes. Most South Africa offers either have no caps or have high ones.
Payouts & Clawbacks
13. What is a clawback, and how often does it happen?
A clawback is the return of a commission that was already paid out. It happens when a borrower defaults, repays the loan early, or turns out to be fraud. Across the industry, clawbacks run at 8–15% of approved leads in GEOs like South Africa. That's a normal part of the economics, not a sign the network is cheating. Just factor it into your unit economics.
14. How can I reduce clawbacks?
- Qualify users on the pre-lander. Asking about employment and existing debts cuts defaults by 20–40%.
- Target formally employed users. Self-employed and gig workers default 2–3x more often.
15. I'm switching from another network. Will I lose money in the transition?
No. Affiliates switching from another network get a migration bonus of +10% on payouts for the first 30 days. Terms are fixed before you start, not "run traffic first, then we'll talk."
16. Why are Leadgid's South Africa payouts higher than other networks'?
We work with banks and MFIs directly, with no resellers. Because of reseller markups, payouts on South Africa PDL offers can be up to 2x lower in other networks. We also don't practice lead shaving, where part of your leads quietly disappears down the chain before payout.
Traffic & Tools
17. What traffic works best for South Africa?
South Africa is a mobile-first market, and Facebook/Meta drives most of the volume. Underrated sources:
- SMS and WhatsApp: cheaper when you have a quality database
- Local classifieds and news portals: warmer audience
- Native Ads: work especially well for this GEO
18. Do I need my own website?
No. You can run traffic through TikTok, Facebook Ads, a Telegram channel, or YouTube Shorts with a link in bio. For finance this is often more effective, since there are fewer steps between user intent and conversion.
19. Do you have ready-made tools, or do I build everything myself?
LeadCore is free for all partners. It includes:
- SmartLink: one link that picks the offer by GEO and device
- A showcase builder with ready-made responsive templates (South Africa supported)
- Built-in TDS for traffic distribution
- Auto-exclusion of offers the user has already converted on
- Postbacks, UTM, SubID, and API
Rules
20. Is non-local traffic (diaspora) allowed?
The traffic source doesn't matter. What matters is that the borrower is a South African citizen with a valid ID. Non-citizens won't be approved, no matter where the click came from.
21. Which traffic sources are allowed?
Every offer has its own list. There's no single rule for South Africa, and a source allowed by one advertiser isn't necessarily allowed by all of them. Always check the specific offer's terms. SEO, banners, search ads, social media (unless banned for that offer), and email (subject to approval) are generally allowed. Adult, incentivized traffic, pop-ups, cashback, teasers, and clickunders are always prohibited.
